Olympian visits wheelchair basketball festival

A PARALYMPIAN presented awards to achievers who competed in Warwickshire’s first wheelchair basketball festival.

Held at Myton School in Warwick and organised by the Change 4 Life wheelchair basketball club that holds sessions there, the festival saw 33 disabled and able-bodied children from across the country, Coventry and Solihull take part in matches last Thursday.

GB wheelchair rugby player Mandip Sehmi presented awards to winners, while the event was also attended by coaches from Warwickshire Bears Wheelchair Basketball Club.

The Change 4 Life club started in January after Round Oak School’s sports coordinator Jayne Johnson raised funds to buy extra sports wheelchairs, following initial funding from the the Government’s ‘Change 4 life’ scheme. Sessions, which are open to able-bodied and disabled people, take place at Myton School every Monday from 4pm to 5pm.
