Olympic torchbearer inspires Lillington pupils

OLYMPIC torchbearer Chris Johnson’s visit to Lillington Nursery and Primary School proved to be inspirational for pupils.

Mr Johnson, who carried the flame through Warwick during the recent Torch Relay event, gave a talk to the youngsters about how the torch was constructed.

The pupils then got a chance to have their pictures taken while holding the torch.

Derek Fance, the school’s headteacher, said: “We want the pupils here to be the best they can be and for them to have the opportunity to meet an Olympic torchbearer was terrific.

“For them to see and hold the torch and to meet somebody as inspirational as Chris was great.”

“They have done a lot of work to do with the Olympics over the summer term and this was a really nice way for them to finish that off.”

The school is celebrating its 60th anniversary in September.
