One World Link’s Ebola appeal has raised good sum

Warwick district’s link to Bo in Sierra Leone has led to more than £1,500 being raised for an appeal to tackle the Ebola crisis.

The appeal was launched by One Worl Link in October and has since raised £1,700 for the cause which will help people both during and after the crisis.

Kip Warr, of One World Link, said; “ This will make a significant difference to the local effort to combat the disease and its after-effects. “We still welcome donations through our website.”

In its latest report on 29 November, the World Health Organization said 6,928 people were now known to have died from Ebola.

More than 16,000 have been infected.

Between 200 and 300 people are dying every week. Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone are by the far the worst hit countries.

Bo is not currently under quarantine and those involved with One World Link have not been directly affected but a major aid centre has been set up at the quarantined nearby town of Kenema.

Former Leamington resident and one of One World Links’s founder members Dr Paul Gully working as a field co-ordinator for the World Health Organisation in Sierra Leone.
