A big thank you to everyone

As chairman of the Leamington Spa Branch of the Royal British Legion I would like to express my thanks to the Whitnash Town Council for allowing a Poppy Party to be held on Saturday June 11 to celebrate the 90th year of the Royal British Legion.

My special thanks goes to councillor Adrian Barton, Fiona and Cathy for all their had work over the last few months. Without them the function would never have got off the ground. I also thank all organisations, businesses and schools that contributed to the success of the event. The amount raised so far is in excess of £4,500 and is increasing by the day.

The final amount raised will be split between the Poppy Appeal and the Children’s Forces Trust and will be put to very good use by both charities in supporting the welfare of our servicemen and their families not only now but for years to come.

The Leamington Spa Branch is also celebrating its 90th year this year and I am proud that we have been able to keep a branch going in Leamington since the commencement of the Royal British Legion and I hope that the residents of Leamington and surrounding areas will once again this year support the Poppy Appeal in November.

Whilst writing I can confirm that as at the end of May 2011 our 2010 Poppy Appeal total for this area is £31,725.88. This is all down to the residents of this area and I say a big thank you. Again thank you to Adrian, Fiona and Cathy for their enthusiasm and hard work over the past few months - it paid off. - Vince Watson, Chairman of the Leamington Spa Branch of the Royal British Legion.
