A decision made in fear of appeal

In last week’s paper Chris White’s Westminster Briefing was devoted to the Shades SEV licence hearing. Interesting to read his apparent intervention but he omits to point out that five Conservative councillors voted in favour of it.

Clearly they are mis-guided. Do they and he talk? Perhaps they should. The ‘Westminster Briefing’ also fails to mention that some council decisions appear to be made in fear of losing on appeal and the associated costs. Perhaps these same councillors were concerned by that.

The Conservatives are quick to highlight they’ve frozen council tax over recent years but fail to mention the loss of services and, in this case, budget that would enable a sensible council to defend the interests of its residents.
