A happy outcome for all concerned

Local residents are extremely grateful to Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd and Alburn Retail Ltd for addressing their concerns about access to the Sainsbury’s store at Coten End, Warwick.

A nearby residents association representing many elderly residents approached me for help because they were feeling very vulnerable when crossing the car park to get to the store. There is no footpath on one side and they were having to run the gauntlet of traffic manoeuvring in the restricted space there. This would be no problem to able-bodied people but some of the residents nearby are frail and not so mobile.

However, my persistent representations over the last year have now paid off as Sainsbury’s and the landlord came to the rescue. They have now installed a marked pedestrian walkway protected by bollards, added a handrail to the raised walkway at the store entrance and reconfigured the car park, all at considerable expense.

One of the residents told me today that she “feels so much safer now” and the residents association is delighted. It just shows how such issues can be overcome with the will to tackle them. Congratulations and thanks to all concerned in achieving a happy and successful outcome. - Cllr. Linda Bromley, Warwick District Councillor, Warwick South Ward.
