Accident shows need for speed humps

I am not saying this was the case in this particular incident, but in the light of an eight year old boy being knocked over in Franklin Road (Courier last week), is it about time that speed bumps were installed to stop the idiots from coming down the road at breakneck speeds.

It’s a narrow road with cars often parked at the side of the road making it even narrower, yet cars seem to travel way too fast up and down it.

I am not speaking as a pedestrian here, I am a car driver myself and I hate speed bumps at the best of times, but this seems to be a perfect road to put them in. I have seen many many “near misses” over the years, where drivers have raced to get to a place first so they can proceed without stopping, and many a time where children and cats have had to run to make sure they don’t get run over. Time for this to stop.

If drivers were more considerate and slowed down, then this would not be a problem but I guess that would fall on deaf ears.

I hope the lad has a speedy recovery, all his school friends send their best wishes (he is in my son’s class at school). - Jason Pope, via email.
