Asset could be an earner for council

I have read with interest the correspondence relating to the proposed “sale” of the Pump Rooms.

There is absolutely no reason at all why parts of the building not comprised in the library and art gallery should not be leased to private enterprises in return for rent and service charge which the council can use to maintain and repair the historic, listed parts of the building.

Leases can be drafted in such a way that the council can forfeit them for breaches during the terms and repossess the premises let at the end of the terms without the tenants gaining security of tenure.

I urge councillors to take advice as to how best income can be earned from this asset before dismissing the idea of the involvement of private enterprise in the Pump Rooms’ future.
