Changes will be a huge blow

As an avid Twitter user I was notified via the Courier’s Twitter service about the consultation period regarding school admission changes in the Warwick area.

I was flabbergasted that the council is even thinking of changing the entire application system that will have knock on effects for all residents. Even if you don’t have children, your house price will be affected by this change just to solve a small issue that affects a handful of people (30 last year).

Completely removing the existing catchment areas for primary schools in Warwick is a huge undertaking and fundamentally will change the community infrastructure of Warwick forever.

The council is trying to solve a small issue by affecting every household in Warwick with a utopian ideal that will cause stress, anxiety and confusion for the entire district.

Not only that but the new system is flawed. It will have a knock on effect when new children without siblings at existing schools will be refused entry to their local school due to the creation of the SPA giving priority to entry for children with siblings already at schools, even though they could live miles from the actual school.

For me and many people in Warwick the biggest investment of their lives will be the house they purchase to create a home for them and their families. Changing or, should I say, removing the catchment areas for our local schools will cause an adverse effect for hundreds of households, and in these dark times this is the last thing we need.

The certainty of knowing my children have access to a good school is one of the small constants that I can rely on while I deal with the stresses of keeping my family’s life afloat during a recession. Also there is the inevitable stress and drop in quality of life with the impending construction and traffic to be caused in future years with the 10,000+ houses to be built in south Warwick.

My child’s future, mine and the hundreds of families who reside in the Myton area have just been delivered a huge blow by the council, I for one can’t take anymore.
