Chickens coming home to roost

Warwickshire County Council Leader Izzie Seccombe has pointed out the dire consequences for council services of a lack of funding (‘£92 million black hole’, Courier last week).

Cllr Cockburn talks about ‘chickens coming home to roost’. The chickens are the council’s decision to freeze the council tax over the last three years.

Why doesn’t the council join the 40 per cent of councils (half of them Tory controlled ) who are planning to raise taxes in defiance of the government, in order to reduce the burden on those disadvantaged members of our community who will inevitably be the worst hit by any cutbacks.
