Consider impact on the future

Last Saturday I visited the Trilogy presentation in the Pump Room. I for one was very disappointed by what was on display.

The thought that immediately came to my mind was that the revised plan would be a permanent commemoration to the 2010 recession – yet another out of town superstore (I note Trilogy made a tame effort to argue that this would have no impact on the stores in the town centre. Who could believe them with this volte face).

One of the considerations in drawing up plans must be their likely impact over a number of decades and how this will impact on the people who live and visit our town. Hence the original proposal for a statement building in the approved plans as one enters into the town as a positive long term image for the town. I imagine this must have been a significant argument to the granting of the original Foundry Park approval.

Well, we run into a recession and an opportunity for a change of mind takes over in the minds of the developer. If this proposal is accepted I wonder how it will be viewed in ten years’ time. I do not think we will be thanked if we leave such a legacy to commemorate our failure, both nationally and locally, to provide for the future. My advice to the planning authority is that they hold Trilogy to their original proposal. - Chris Cox, Lansdowne Circus, Leamington.
