Delighted by news of station funding

I was delighted to hear that £37 billion pounds of investment between 2014-2019 will modernise the railways, including specific projects that directly benefit the local area from Nuneaton to Leamington with electrification, double-tracks, more frequent services; and now the fantastic news that Kenilworth will receive funding for a new station after 55 years!

Yet only six months ago we were led to believe by anti-HS2 campaigners that none of this could happen because all funds, at a time of austerity, were being diverted to projects like HS2. Their claims are once again shown to be false.

In further irony, after losing nine of ten legal challenges in the recent Judicial Review, Warwick County Council is ploughing over £150,000 of council tax and reserves to fund spurious legal challenges and appeals at a time when local jobs, child services, street lighting, libraries, subsidised or free parking are being curtailed. We witnessed a sham consultation on funding for street lighting to justify the switch-off; yet no one asked the taxpayer if we were willing for reserves and council tax to be diverted to these vanity appeals. Enough is enough.
