Disruption should be minimised

I understand that some traffic disruption is inevitable during the long overdue upgrading of Leamington’s Victorian sewers, but those responsible for planning road closure in the town have a duty to minimise the disruption. A duty they are singularly failing to satisfy.

There are two examples of apparently unnecessary street closures.

The first the total closure of Bath Place, which certainly up to yesterday (October 1) was quite unnecessary as there are no works requiring its closure for traffic wishing to turn left into High Street and it would ease traffic flows if only the necessary partial closure is put in place while this remains the case.

The second is the closure on Monday night of Spencer Street by police to create a “causality clearing station” for arriving Warwick University Freshers. While I applaud the desire to help keep our new young residents safe, did they really have to close another route in an area already hit by the sewer works? Given the location of the student accommodation and night spots in the town I can think of at least four nearby locations which are not only better suited for the purpose but would have avoided the need for any further road closure.

Can I suggest those responsible engage their brains and try and do a better job .
