Don’t waste this golden opportunity

We strongly suspected that the Government were having second thoughts about HS2 when they confirmed they were delaying the decision on HS2 this week. We have had this confirmed and they are asking all Tory MPs for their thoughts on the scheme. As such it not only important to put more pressure on our MP, but to contact more MPs off route NOW - or at least before the New Year.

We are in the political endgame here. HS2 might get beaten at a later date via the courts, but right here right now, we have an opportunity we will never get again, to kill it off stone dead. A fortnight ago, Andrea Leadsom MP said that MPs will start paying attention once they have had just five letters/emails from constituents. Now is the time to contact your family and friends to ask them to do this for you.

We have inserts for you to place in your Christmas cards at Town and Country Furniture (closed Sun & Mon) and at HQ (open this Friday, then Mon-Sat next week), which ask people to contact their MP via http://www.highspeedrail.org.uk and explain some of the arguments against this colossal waste of money which scars the landscape and doesn’t do any of the stuff the proponents claim.

The leaflets also ask people to get behind the Christmas Single Campaign at http://www.oaktreelament.org.uk, which the music press are taking seriously - See http://hangout.altsounds.com/reviews/139926-dirty-mavis-oak-tree-lament-stop-hs2.html This initiative is intended to up the pressure and publicity for the campaign for this final push. It’s also a fundraiser, but if we are really lucky we won’t need the money and it can go towards a big party!

Now is the time to act! We cannot waste this opportunity. - Joe Rukin, chairman, Stop HS2 Kenilworth Action Group.
