Drivers - pay more attention!

I wanted to write and bring to readers attention an issue which seems to have developed on Princes Drive, due in part (I’m sure) to the diversions in place due to the road works on Emscote Road.

Traffic at rush hour is crawling along Princes Drive – often at less than five miles an hour, however this week I have witnessed two drivers who are going to end up causing someone a nasty accident.

On Tuesday, I was behind a white van which was drifting around the lane from the central white line road markings right up to the curb. Yes, this was very slowly but he almost knocked a cyclist off her bike. Luckily she was not cycling fast and managed to stop before he knocked her over. When I overtook him up near Blockbuster he was texting on his mobile!

Today (Thursday) I was behind a blue Micra, who was not keeping up with the traffic and again was drifting about her lane. When I looked closer, she was applying her mascara whilst driving! When I beeped at her to move forward in the traffic she then had to put her seatbelt on before moving off! She eventually turned off up Tachbrook Park (no doubt where she works) – apparently her indicators didn’t work as she didn’t bother to use any at any point of her driving.

Drivers need to be aware that all the road rules apply to all of us – and just because traffic is crawling along slowly does not mean these rules don’t exist. Please take care of yourselves and be aware of other road users – you are not the only ones on the road. - Name and address supplied.
