Get everyone onside and find a solution

The astonishing outbursts by Cllr Linda Bromley over the outline proposals for the new accommodation for the Sea Scouts cannot be allowed to stand without rebuttal.

One has to wonder who elected her as she appears to be spokesperson for Friends of St Nicholas Park rather than representing the interests of the district, the next generations to come and the people that voted for her.

As a former elected member for Warwick, I am dismayed that she seems utterly to have misunderstood her duties as a councillor and resorts to stirring such outlandish nimbyism.

That is not to say that she cannot have her own opinion. She relishes that already. But to so distort obvious truths is quite shameful.

Let’s be clear. The district council has been bending over backwards to find a reasonable way out of the problem premises in which the Sea Scouts currently meet, and in so doing opening the opportunity and potential development for a raft of other new youngsters. So why is the councillor so in the dark? How can she be so out of touch? The plans aim to be pure investment in our children’s future. So what exactly is Cllr Bromley offering? Clearly nothing useful, but hot air, dissent - and a petition. For heaven’s sake get real.

The Sea Scouts are being challenged enough to resolve the premises issue. Funding has to be raised, planning, including dealing with Gail Warrington’s concerns. So do consult and debate – but please quit this conspiracy theory and representation of no-change for St Nicholas Park. It has had sensitive investment and development over many years for the enjoyment and recreation of all ages and very many visitors from around the world.

A very responsible body, the Sea Scouts are one of the very types of organisation in our district in which we should be very proud. So let’s support them and get everyone on side to find a good solution to suit as many views and interests as possible - precisely as the Sea Scouts are trying to do. - Richard Tilden Smith, Priory Mews, Northgate, Warwick
