Hoping common sense prevails

Mr Kalas is spot on when he says Princes Drive roundabout is lethal (Courier Letters June 14). Although the arrangements for pedestrians have improved in some places, overall pedestrians and cyclists appear to have been an afterthought.

It is not good enough for Warwickshire County Council to say the footpaths and kerbs under the bridge were not part of the scheme. Will they still be saying this when there a serious collision between a cyclist and a pedestrian? Surely, they have a responsibility for all highways and paths across the county.

I have been in touch with the county council and Morrisons to try and get this rectified. I have had a response from the county council and they have confirmed that the completed junction “has been subject to a safety audit and that no issues relating to the width of the existing footway under the arch have been reported”.

I am astonished by this assessment. You do not need to be a highway engineer to see that this corner is just too narrow as a shared space for pedestrians and cyclists.

I am hoping that common sense will prevail and the arch under the railway bridge will be cleared and a proper path is made for non-motorists. I am sure that this would be a modest investment for Morrisons for the benefit of all of their customers.
