Horrified by cuts proposals

I am writing in to say how horrified I am at the proposed 40 per cent cut to funding for all our local children’s centres. I have used the various centres since they first opened, first as a parent, and then as a child minder.

When my older children were small I would have given anything for a place like these to go to. Instead, I was isolated in a small flat with two babies. You have no idea how hard that is unless you have actually done it!

Now I take other people’s children to the centres, providing them with opportunities for socialising, independence and confidence in a variety of settings. My job is to prepare young children for nursery and school, and the help and advice I have received over the years from staff and parents, not to mention long lasting friendships, has been priceless.

I would hate to think that in the future there could be lonely young mums out there without the support of children’s centres. Surely that is just going backwards in a world that is supposed to be moving forwards?
