How can people be so uncaring?

I’d like to say how disgusted I felt last week when I used my husband’s blue badge parking card for the first time in Leamington’s Regent Street and ended up getting a £70 parking ticket.

I couldn’t believe it as I’m 83 and my husband is 88 and recovering from a stroke. I wouldn’t have minded paying the normal parking charge at all but decided to use the badge because I didn’t want him to have to walk too far or for us to stay out too long.

In the end I had to navigate all the closed roads in the town and find my way to the district council offices near Warwick New Road - all the time getting more and more upset. I just didn’t know what we’d done wrong or why we should be fined.

It was only when I saw an understanding man at the council that I found out I’d put the parking badge on back to front! But why did that matter so much? Couldn’t a warden see that it was a genuine mistake and show some consideration?

Apparently the ticket can’t be cancelled once issued. I’ve filled in an explanation form but haven’t been able to sleep since. Now I have to wait two weeks to see if I can be let off. How can people be so uncaring? - Name and address supplied.
