Is Big Brother going through your bins?

I wonder how many of your readers know of the campaign by the district council to look in our rubbish bins to see if we are recycling properly.

Last Thursday, September 22, I was getting ready to go out when I saw two men looking into our grey bins. I asked them what they were doing, and they told me they were checking to see if people were putting the correct rubbish out for collection.

When I asked who had authorised this I was told “the district council”. I asked how long that this had been going on for and they said about a month.

I, as do my neighbours, try to recycle as much as is possible, and I object to the council checking up on my rubbish in this way.

Who authorised this and why were we, as council tax payers, not informed of this decision? It would seem that Big Brother is watching us after all.

I do not think that this approach would make anyone recycle any more than they already do, and I strongly object to this behaviour.

I wonder how many of the people of Warwick District know and approve of this behaviour. - Mrs. A Mellor, via email
