Letter writer missed the point

Your correspondent Graham Rutter (Courier, June 15) entirely misses the point of my criticism of the Chief Fire Officer for his attack on Warwickshire Police, and clearly fails to understand the judicial process.

It is the Crown Prosecution Service, and not the police, who decide if a prosecution follows a police investigation, and if he really had to complain about the prosecutions, CFO Smith should have addressed the CPS, and not Warwickshire police.

As I wrote, public safety depends of a close and mutually respectful relationship between the emergency services, and CFO Smith’s intemperate attack, and the support so misguidedly offered him by Cllr Farnell, leader of Warwickshire County Council, did nothing to enhance the vitally important relationship between police and the fire and rescue service.

On the contrary, they inflicted considerable unnecessary damage to it, to the detriment of the people of Warwickshire who pay CFO Smith’s salary. - J.E.S.Bradshaw, Nightingale Court, Southam.
