Losing Period Shop would be a shame

I gather from my mum who lives in Warwick that you have highlighted the plight of the Period House Shop.

I think it would be a real shame to lose this shop from the town centre. Warwick doesn’t need another empty shop - and particularly in these challenging economic times.

It seems to me that Warwick, the county town, has suffered greatly in the last few years with the exodus of the council staff from the town - Warwick should be supported by the council by not putting up rates, and landlords encouraged to help their tenants by not putting up rents to the extent that tenants can’t afford to stay.

The council should be going out of its way to encourage people to shop local and to do all it can to support the shops and businesses in the town. Warwick is a brilliant place - I grew up there above my father’s bookshop on the high street. I still come back regularly because my mum still lives here and because it’s such a great place.

I really hope this shop is saved - and that it spurs the council and landlords to do what they can to keep as many shops and businesses in the town as possible. - Kate Gould, Brockley Gardens, London.
