Money better spent elsewhere

On Tuesday June 28 I was walking over the road in Warwick Street to the Co-op. I walked over the new speed bumps (no notice to alert me to be cautious) and on the third I tripped.

I landed very heavily on the pavement cracking two front teeth, spraining my hands, bruises everywhere and my shoulder very badly jarred. The lady serving at the Co-op remarked that it had happened several times and they were obviously dangerous.

I spent the week going between doctor, dentist, physiotherapist and hospital. Is the council mad? Every reasonable person knows that speed bumps will not stop the people who indulge in speeding, the boy racers will continue- it’s a challenge, apparently.

These speed humps cost hundreds of thousands of pounds. This could be spent on people in real need - the disabled, pensioners, the homeless, the poor, etc.

I was told today that the ramp put in for the young men in the park for skate boarding has been demolished. Does the council want more trouble? There are few places for youngsters in Leamington - this was totally unnecessary as are the speed humps.

As one approaches Oxford town centre - slightly on the outskirts of the town - there is a 30mph speed limit. Woe betide anyone breaching that rule. Everyone knows they will get a fine, that will hit where it hurts. Traffic is completely out of control in Leamington because the public are aware that they can get away with it. - Barbara Gekoski, Somers Place, Leamington.
