More a case on No Prime Minister

I really wonder if Sundari Sankar went to the Belgrade theatre’s production of ‘Yes, Prime Minister’ (Courier last week) or simply relied upon their optimistic press release.

We went on Saturday, the final day, to see a shambolic looking Graham Seed ill-cast as the PM and forever forgetting his lines even though it was not he who had the monologues to contend with. Sundari is probably too young to remember the side-splitting TV series which had tight story lines perfectly played by actors with impeccable timing.

This production was disappointing, an anaemically thin imitation of the real thing during which I found myself having time to wonder, on several occasions, just where the storyline was going. The plot did not immerse you, it was not ‘hilarious’ and, I beg to differ, certainly not ‘an intellectual night of fun’. - Anne Piper, via email.
