More homes mean more revenue

Dr. Taulbut suggests that ‘inexplicably, the Draft Local Plan uses a low household density and a high population increase’ when calculating the number of dwellings required (Letters last week).

I would like to suggest, since both of these figures help to expand the number of houses required in the district, that it is entirely intentional because more houses means expanded revenue for the district council as well as expanded services to be provided and managed.

This, in turn, means more people to be employed and a greater amount of revenue to be managed and, therefore, bigger salaries and pensions can be demanded, particularly for those at the top of the council officers’ tree.
