Not all of us voted in favour

As a member of the Warwick District Council regulatory committee, I wish to place it on public record that the committee’s decision to grant Amara a sex entertainment licence was voted for only by the Conservative members of the committee, with a casting vote from the chair, none of whom live in, or represent any areas of Leamington.

The decision to grant the licence is in total disregard of the council’s own written guidance to councillors on matters such as this, which states that a licence should not normally be granted to premises in close proximity to a residential area. As such, these councillors totally ignored the residents of Tower Street, which is a cul-de-sac off of Court Street where Amara is situated, and only 100m away from the premises.

I am mystified and very saddened by the decision, and can only conclude that the Conservative party members of the council have neither interest in, nor sufficient knowledge of, Leamington to make decisions of this nature. - Cllr. Dave Wreford-Bush, Crown Ward.
