Not an issue for party politics

Labour councillors have been using a consultative and collaborative approach with other parties at Leamington Town Council as we believe residents of our town would wish us to act together in their interests and not to engage in party politics.

So it was with dismay that we saw that the Liberal Democrat Party is claiming in their newsletter that they ‘are the only party that can be trusted to care about the heritage and life of Leamington’.

This is not only disingenuous, it is insulting to other committed and hard-working councillors, voluntary organisations and residents who care very deeply about the town. It saddens us to see Cllr Gifford making such personal accusations for short-term political gain, as we have taken care to consult all parties on matters relating to the town.

We hope this will be the last attempt to claim sole credit for progress and achievements in the council. We do of course value the Liberal Democrats contribution to debates, and have been happy to accommodate suggestions when appropriate. We trust that they will continue to work with us on the exciting new venture to develop a town plan.

Ann Morrison (Labour), Leader of Leamington Town Council
