Over-reaction over unpaid fee

I understand that a proposal to end the criminal offence of failing to buy a television licence raised by MP Andrew Bridgens was greeted by wide support .

Can I report a harrowing story - of which their must be many more - that was relayed to me the other day?

A young mother was told that there was a warrant out for her arrest for non-payment of a TV licence. She thought there had been some kind of mistake and visited the police station to enquire if there was a problem. Once there, she was placed under arrest, handcuffed and taken to a cell.

A fee was overdue but for a previous address which had been overlooked on her move.

I’m not going to debate the whys and wherefores of British law but I would like to say get a grip to all MPs and sort this travesty out - let’s see democracy in action for once.

Even if it’s good old Beeb or Britain’s Biggest Con, I would like to see the directors of the BBC standing in court for inflicting a diatribe of repeats on the great British public - what do you think?
