Perhaps victims don’t bother?

Can anyone believe the Government’s claim that the reported crime rate, particularly violent crime, is falling? A far more likely scenario for these so-called statistics, if our own area is anything to go by, and from my own personal experience is that:

1) If such a crime is committed, with the closure of so many police stations and the reduction in the numbers of police generally, it is difficult to find anyone to report a crime to.

2) If such a person can be found, the response is generally so tardy that unless it is a really serious violent crime, it’s details are not even recorded anyway.

Hence victims either find it so difficult, or impossible, to report an incident to, they simply don’t bother. No wonder we are then told that the numbers of recorded crimes are down, rather that the number of actual crimes being committed!
