Plaques could be easily restored

Last week’s Courier had a most worthwhile feature,on the neglected state of war plaques in St Nicholas Park. It is laudable that Labour candidate, Lynnette Kelly and resident Jackie D’arcy, have highlighted the situation. Of course the issue transcends party considerations.

Collectively, surely restorative work , could be done to the two dozen or so plaques that are not beyond redemption. In 1969 I worked on them myself . The specification being light preparation a coat of primer , white undercoat and white gloss . The raised inscription picked out black gloss paint. The difference would be a fitting mark of respect, particularly in the centenary year of the First World War.

Surely cost will not be an insurmountable obstacle to this?
