Proposed sites aren’t suitable

For the residents of Chase Meadow to feel that the travellers/gypsies deserve a better site than that proposed between the M40 and the sewage works at Stratford Road in Warwick shows a welcome consideration for the predicament of others.

I recently cycled down Harbury Lane past the New Windmill football ground, another of the proposed sites and was taken aback by an awful smell in the air.

Stopping to look around I realised that this was coming from the chicken farm to the west of the site and was being carried on a westerly breeze, this generally being the prevailing wind direction.

I wondered what cynical official could even propose that such a location should be considered as a residential site. Then I read your recent article and guessed that the same person probably proposed the Stratford Road site as well.

I cannot understand why the council is creating problems by proposing unsuitable sites. Some years ago a site about 1km from Bridge End, Warwick, off the Banbury Road, formerly known I believe as Turnbulls Garden was laid out as a caravan site. Expensive roadworks were carried out to provide a safe access, even road signs were erected then nothing. The site has remained vacant for at least two years with it just being used for storage.

Why can’t the council acquire this site and put an end to the saga of where to locate the travellers site.
