Railings will hamper Christian gathering

An open letter to Warwick District Council: This letter has been simmering for some time re: the large amount of iron railings erected in the Christchurch Gardens at the top of the Parade in Leamington last year.

Cynics have said you have money left over in your coffers and must spend it on “something” before financial year end.

Other voices hint darkly at “containment”. Do you not know? Have you not heard that masses of Christians descend on this space, now hemmed in by a half moon barrier on Good Friday morning. We go to witness the erection of a replica Cross, similar to that on which our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ was crucified about 2,000 years ago.

The railings seem to me to serve no purpose at all! But it may certainly cause a few difficulties on Good Friday for families with small children. Suffice it to say that theHoly Spirit will never be “contained” in any inappropriate way, yet I would ask you to attend the site, engage with the speakers and main organizers and perhaps, think again! - Sheila Millward, via email.
