Regenerate sites not develop new ones

“There is a strong demand for retail in Leamington” says Joe Baconnet. If this is the case, how come there are now more empty retail premises than a year or so ago when the Clarendon Arcade scheme was first mooted?

Businesses have been closing down at an alarming rate recently in the lower part of the Parade, Regent Grove, Park Street, Regent Street and Warwick Street, as well as in the relatively new Livery Street area.

Instead of embarking on yet more unnecessary development in our beautiful town centre, surely more effort should be put into regenerating these sites, many of which are architecturally far more suited to Leamington’s character. - Liz Townsend, via email.
