Shame on the Co-op for Woodloes move

When I was a child my parents taught me that the Co-operative movement was a fine, philanthropic, social institution with a strict ethical business philosophy which was much admired by working people. In fact since that time the Co-op has indeed on occasion shown a healthy and conscientious bias towards a number of “green” and human rights issues in its commercial policies.

How disappointing it is, therefore, to see them unnecessarily proposing to open a new supermarket on the Woodloes Estate that is not only not wanted by the majority of local residents, but that will ultimately be responsible for jeopardising the financial future of a number of local family businesses at Reardon Court!

How shocked, surprised and disappointed my parents (and others of their generation) would be to see such a once great institution adopting the same cynical marketing ploys of the other major supermarket chains.
