Still no council explanation

Despite weeks of calls in the press by Warwick ward councillors from both Conservative and Labour parties, and numerous local residents for a full independent inquiry into the mismanagement of St Mary Lands and the bungling that may have cost the taxpayers more than £1 million, there has yet to be any public response by Warwick District Council?

The WDC executive and senior officers are by law accountable to the public for their actions, and are required to act in a transparent way with honesty and integrity.

Yet they have apparently chosen not to give a public explanation or to call in the external auditors to investigate?

Is this a case of utter contempt for the local residents and their elected representatives or are they hiding widespread problems with how the WDC is carrying out its basic duties on behalf of local residents?

I believe that the council now needs to quickly restore public confidence, and the first step should be to investigate and be open in what has gone wrong; so lessons can be learnt and those responsible held to account.
