Turning part of Warwick into no-go area

Lauren Young’s solution is to offer parking on her forecourt for non-customers at an extortionate rate (Courier February 24). Fifty pounds per hour, or part thereof should frighten people away. The offer should be displayed on a highly visible notice so that an enforceable contrast is made. The offer should point out equally clearly that customer parking is free.

Lauren’s problems highlight the problems caused by the Milverton Hill Mob’s crackpot approach to on-street parking. Lauren is literally being forced out of business so that relatively few people can have their cake and eat it.

The MH Mob is choking Lauren’s business to death by turning part of Warwick into a no-go area.

What makes the MH Mob’s policy even more crackpot is that in most cases the houses near Lauren’s have gardens large enough to park several cars. Just as this policy is forcing Lauren out of business, it is damaging many other businesses. Mark my words; sooner or later this policy will reduce Warwick Hospital to the role of cottage hospital. Howzabout it MH Mob? Howzabout a “fair shares for all” policy towards on-street parking? You know it makes sense in the long run. Sooner or later local taxpayers are going to work out that having to pay £5.50 to park for one hour one minute at Warwick Hospital or £1.20 to park for an hour in say Warwick centre - as well as paying local taxes to help provide virtually free parking for people with gardens big enough for several cars - is highway robbery.

While the council’s generosity giving away a valuable asset in the form of virtually free parking to curry favour with voters at a time when they are cutting services to really needy people left right and centre, is nothing short of criminal. - Mike Delta, Arlington Avenue, Leamington.
