Volunteers played their part too

It was good to read your coverage of the new Linden Arches (Courier, last week) in the Pump Room Gardens. Thank you.

One important point does need correction. Warwick District Council has given £40,000 towards the cost of the project (which you correctly say was about £110,000); the volunteers raised the rest.

This they have done thanks to the enormous generosity of local residents, businesses (some national and even global) and other organisations.

The council, both officers and councillors, provided great support to the volunteers over the four years the project has taken to complete. The volunteers are very grateful for all this help and we all look forward to the formal opening of the Linden Arches on Thursday 7 June.- Archie Pitts, Friends of the Pump Room Gardens.
