We elected you to make the decisions on our behalf

We elect councillors to do what they say in their manifestos and act in our best interest.

What’s the point in officers commissioning research, at great expense, into what the ‘customer wants’, and then ignoring parts of the results?

There is too much of this going on at the council recently. It is subverting the democratic process.

The ‘customer’ cannot be every resident, it must be their elected representative.

We have elected councillors to make the difficult choices about priorities, in accordance with their manifestos.

We did not elect them to hide behind the results of public surveys or notions about what the customer wants.

Most members of the public will admit that they don’t know the full picture anyway. That’s what we have professional officers for.

So come on councillors, get a grip. You are in close contact with your electorate. You know what the priorities are. Impose them. - Adrian Underhill, via email.
