We found out about the Southam plans by reading your paper!

Thank you for your brief article regarding the proposed development of Southam town centre, as it appears to be more than Stratford District Council have disclosed to the residents so far.

There are several concerns that Southam people have; principally the loss of the green oasis effect of the trees, grassed areas and spring flowers, as well the creation of a canyon effect with tall buildings facing onto High Street, thus creating a wind tunnel effect, which running North/South would be most unpleasant in winter.

The present police station and magistrates court building is of a handsome design and construction and it would be shameful for it to be demolished for an inferior replacement, as also can be said of the existing Victor Hodges Home.

The town is full of residents with ideas, knowledge and expertise, coupled to the feel of the pulse of Southam.

It is to be hoped that SDC makes an open and honest consultation process available to all, with sympathetic notice taken of proposals emanating from within Southam. - Robert Sherriff, Masters Orchard, Southam.
