Working hard for acceptable solution

Mr Meddoms declares (Postbag, Courier July 29) that I have turned the Sea Scouts quest for a new building into a problem.

The problem is not of my making but I have tried consistently to encourage full consultation in an attempt to find a solution to satisfy all parties. It is the practicality of their current proposal that is the problem.

I do not need reminding how valuable this organisation is to our young people. Indeed I enjoyed many years in the Scouting movement myself as a youngster and a volunteer and would wholeheartedly support the expansion of this excellent group. This is also the view of the Myton Road residents, some of whom have children in the Sea Scouts group, but they cannot be expected to accept a massive drop in the value of their homes to accommodate a new HQ, nor can planning policy be disregarded.

Just as your local councillors have worked hard to achieve a reprieve for our Warwick Youth Service we are committed to supporting volunteer groups for the benefit of our society. As promised by the leader of Warwick District Council, Cllr Michael Doody (Cons.), a further meeting has now taken place between the Sea Scouts and the district council planning department which we all hope will identify a more suitable site for the Sea Scouts’ future home. - Cllr. Linda Bromley, Warwick District Council (South Ward).
