Organisation that teaches practical skills is opening a community centre in Warwick

A not-for-profit organisation that aims to educate communities with practical skills is opening a community centre in Warwick on October 31.

Roots to the Future specialises in teaching skills such as building, mechanics and agriculture.

Commenting on the opening, founder Tommy Hickin said “We’re so excited to open the centre and help the local community to learn key, essential skills. Our ethos is to provide a practical education for every generation.

"We aim to provide men, women, boys and girls, with a holistic learning experience.”

The community centre, located at Scar Bank, Warwick, CV34 5DB, is equipped with two large classrooms, a mechanics area and a workshop.

Prior to opening on October 31, the organisation will be holding two open days at the community centre on Monday October 24 and Tuesday October 25, 10am-4pm, when everyone is welcome to get a feel for the activities that will be on offer.

Tommy added: “From October 31 our team of qualified volunteers will be offering a huge variety of affordable courses including mechanics, engineering, building, carpentry and plumbing every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the centre.

"We’ll also offer a number of sporting activities, self defence and spiritual practices such as meditation and mindfulness on the same days.

"It doesn’t stop there as each Thursday and Friday we will be offering an outdoor based learning experience including, archery, outdoor cooking, bushcraft and horticulture at our beautiful piece of near-by land. Our team of volunteers bring a wealth of experience and expertise and we can’t wait to get started.”
