Paddy stands guard at The Cenotaph to launch appeal

Army veteran Paddy Doyle said he was honoured to be take part in the launch of this year’s Poppy Appeal with a moving tribute to fallen soldiers.

The well-known Balsall Common athlete was one of the people last week who kept watch at a vigil at The Cenotaph in London from sunrise to sunset.

‘The Watch’ was inspired by the images of the repatriation of the Unknown Warrior in 1920.

Paddy said he took part to say thank you to the Royal British Legion after it gave him financial assistance in obtaining a BTEC3 which assisted him with his employment prospects via its ‘Civvy Street’ service.

He added: “I’m honoured to be a part of this historic event.

“The Royal British Legion is the nation’s Custodian of Remembrance and this is a great way for anyone, whether they have served or not, to remember a loved one and celebrate our Armed Forces.”
