Paul merits award for charity work raising thousands

A BUSINESSMAN who found time to help raise much needed funds in Warwickshire for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research has been honoured by the charity for his tireless work.

Paul Hunt, of Barford, was presented with a Certificate of Merit by the charity chief executive Cathy Gilman, who travelled up from London.

For many years he ran Paul Hunt Electrical Installations, in Coten End, Warwick, from which he has now retired and handed over the reins to his son Matthew.

Mr Hunt said: “I feel very, very honoured. It’s the highest honour the charity can bestow.”

He was nominated by the branch committee when he retired as chairman earlier in the year and the certificate was presented in new chairman Anne Oliver’s home in Coventry Road, Warwick.

They were joined by Dr Peter Rose, consultant haematologist at Warwick hospital, who treats blood cancer sufferers.

Mr Hunt has been associated with fundraising for more than 30 years joining when his young daughter, Sara, was being treated for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

In his time, with the support of his wife Rita in fundraising, he has been the public face of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research (LLR) in central Warwickshire for more than 20 years.

Countless business contacts, golf club members and friends have been drawn into the various events that Paul and the branch committee have organised.

His most recent achievement was the support of the president of his own golf club – Stratford – who chose LLR as her charity for the year.

Thanks to her efforts, and Paul’s own commitment to the events, more than £9,000 was raised.
