Pensioner collapses and later dies after verbal altercation with young people in Warwick

A pensioner has collapsed and later died after a verbal altercation with a group of young people in Warwick.

The incident happened in Pickard Street, to where police were called yesterday (Tuesday) at about 8.50pm.

The man, who was 75 and lived in the street, was taken to Warwick Hospital by ambulance but was declared dead at about 9.30pm.

Chief Insp Michael Naughton said: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with the family of the man at this time. This inquiry is in the early stages and we are currently establishing the circumstances leading up to this tragic death.

“There is believed to have been a verbal altercation between the man and a group of young people prior to his collapse.

“We are appealing for any witnesses who were in the Pickard Street area last night, who may be able to assist us to contact Warwickshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 357 of November 18, 2014.”

The man’s next of kin and the coroner have been informed.
