Zuzka (Sue) O'Neill has been hosting the 45-minute daily week-day sessions on Zoom for Year 2 pupils at the school since lockdown began months ago.

The subjects of the calls have ranged from arts and crafts sessions to make posters of thanks for frontline workers and teachers or Easter decorations, making family trees so the youngsters can learn more about their loved ones and homeschooling sessions covering maths, English and science on worksheets provided by the school.

This has been very beneficial for parents as well and they are keen to show their appreciation.

One mum said: "As a sole parent working full time during the pandemic I have relied on Sue to help my child to complete the work provided by the school.

"I owe her so much."

"She is an angel."

At the beginning of each session, Sue chats with all the children and asks what they have been up to since the last time they were on the call.

This relaxes them and ensures the meetings are not too formal for them.

And at the end of each meeting, the children pick one of their favourite songs which Sue then plays to them to listen to as a group.

Annebe Cooke, the mother of Year 2 pupil Emily, said: "Sue, you created a little haven for our kids during this lockdown.

"You gave our kids the opportunity to stay connected with their friends.

"And there is also the homeschooling side as well.

"Thank you for the generous giving of your time."

Morgan Larivain, whose son Hugo's first language is French, said: "At home, English is an additional language.

"Thanks to Zuzka my boy has been able to speak English every day with his mates and has even been taught in English too.

"This has made a huge difference to him.

"And the icing on the cake is that he is having fun.

"I can't be more grateful."

Carly Peach-Igoe, whose son Flynn has been really enjoying the sessions, said: "Thank you Sue for all you have done for our children.

"You have selflessly given your time, helped with their learning and staying connected with their classmates.

"We can't thank you enough."

Sarah Riman's youngest daughter Sophie has taken part in many of the meetings.

Sarah said: "Sue has been such a great help in keeping our children in contact and focused through this difficult time.

"Sophie has really benefitted from seeing some of her friends on a daily basis and that's all thanks to Sue."

Leamington Courier reporter Ollie Williams' son Leo has taken part in the meetings regularly.

Ollie said: "Sue is a wonderful woman and the Zoom meetings she has been hosting and continues to host highlight that.

"They have been so important not only in motivating our children to be productive and positive during lockdown but also in making sure they've stayed connected with their classmates and friends who they've missed seeing at school.

"What's more, it's both lifted their spirits and helped us parents - many of whom are still working during lockdown while looking after our children and trying to ensure the situation does not have a negative impact on them."
