Artistic tribute to the 'wonderful mother figure of grassroots football in Leamington' Joy Barry has been entered into national competition

A Leamington woman has further raised the profile of a huge painting she created as an artistic tribute to her mother who died earlier this year - by entering it into a national painting competition in the Netherlands.

The Courier reported on the enormous work of art, called Joy, in June when Leamington native Julanne Barry displayed the painting in Amsterdam - where she currently lives.

Julanne says that she shared a love of art with her late mother prominent Leamington figure Joy Barry.

Joy would be hugely proud to see Julanne’s work in such a prestigious competition as Painting of the Year 2020.

The painting features a multitude of subjects - from lilies and her mum’s favourite birds to a statue of an angel inspired by a family friend’s photograph on the day of Joy’s burial at Leamington Cemetary in Brunswick Street earlier this year.

The Dutch painting competition has an Audience Favourite prize, in which Julanne’s painting is in with a fighting chance - so if people wish to vote for it, there is a link below.

Julanne said: “I would love to have some votes from my home town if anyone feels like supporting my work.”
