Bizarre handwritten letters discussing cars and opening lounges to prisoners leave Rugbeians puzzled

One resident wishes to reassure residents that whoever is leaving the letters seems to be doing completely randomly

Rugbeians across the town have been left baffled by a series of notes put through doors and stuck to cars which give various suggestions, including opening lounges to prisoners and sending cars to Africa.

Rugby resident Sam told the Advertiser she first received one of the handwritten letters on Tuesday, February 16.

The note read: The international police officer is in need of a (..?..) lady who can dress a living room for prison members to sleep. An elderly who can cover a living room for a person to spend afternoons on. The sisther (sic) has to be tender-hearted. The dutch (sic) police man is searching for loyal miss.

Sam said: "We've only got a little path and we have dogs who are very barky - so they must have crept up very stealthily.

"When I first saw the letter I thought 'what the hell's that?', it was bizarre and we did feel a little unsettled, but I didn't think much of it so I crumpled it up and put it in the bin."

But some time later Sam discovered another note stuck to the windscreen of her car, which was parked in view of the house (but not directly outside) on the street.

At the same time, residents from across Overslade, Newbold and New Bilton reported receiving equally bizarre letters, written in a similar style and in red ink.

Sam said she did not initially report the letters to the police, but made the decision to report the incidents when she realised it was happening across the town.

She spoke with an officer who said neither of the letters appeared to be any attempt at fraud or exploiting the vulnerable because no contact details were left.

The officer told her that the matter would be passed to the local Safer Neighbourhood Team.

Sam said: "I think it's either a person or a group of people who are bored in lockdown, or someone who is struggling with their mental health.

"The same kind of paper is used each time and the handwriting looks a lot like a teenage girl's. But whoever is putting these out could be in a car because they're covering a lot of ground.

"My partner and I thought it was all a bit bizarre, but we were never really bothered by it.

"But we've heard of some residents getting really distressed because they think they were being deliberately targeted.

"If someone is worried, I hope it makes them feel better knowing that these letters are just being put out randomly."
