They can also hunt for clues and QR codes, which reveal tales.

There will also festive wreaths dotted around, which have been created by the gardeners at the castle with the help of volunteers using foliage found on the historic grounds.

Rachel Austin, operations manager at Kenilworth Castle said: “We are open between Christmas and New Year for those locally who want to get out and about.

"During that week we will be running a quest so little one’s can run around and get some fresh air and exercise.

"And of course, our beautiful Christmas wreaths will still be dotted around the property for our visitors to find and marvel at.”

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, visitor numbers will be limited and all those planning to visit (including English Heritage members) will have to book in advance on the English Heritage website and arrive during their time slot.

Only those with pre-booked tickets will be permitted entry, although once on site, visitors are welcome to stay as long as they like.

The Christmas adventure quest is included in an entrance ticket.
