Council seeks further public views on canal-side plans for Warwick district

A final public consultation has just been launched seeking views on the soundness and legality of a development plan document (DPD) which will determine the future of Warwick district’s canal-sides.

This is in line with Warwick District Council’s Local Plan and follows the designation of a Canal Conservation Area in 2019.

The draft document provides policies which will guide the Council on development along the district’s 40km of waterways including sections of both the Grand Union and Stratford-upon-Avon Canals.

Once approved, the plan will inform decisions on residential development, change of use of sites, environmental and social issues, access and tourism potential.

Warwick District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Development Services Cllr John Cooke said: “our canals are a major heritage asset linking our historic towns with the countryside and strengthening Warwick District’s character, economy and tourism offer.

"This is an important stage in moving our plans forward, I would therefore encourage anyone with an interest in determining the future of our canal-sides to take a look at this important document.”

Details of the Canal-side Development Plan (DPD) can be found on the Warwick District Council website here https://www.warwickdc.gov.uk/dpd .

The public have until December 21 to give their views.
