Doyle completes his final push-up

Paddy Doyle said “all the hard work had paid off” after he brought the curtain down on his 12-month record quest with two more feats of strength and endurance.

A 27-mile crosscountry speed march carrying a 60lb backpack along the Grand Union Canal was followed by a back-of-the-hands push-up record which took his tally to 48 documented feats in a calendar year.

Doyle completed the speed march in 7hr 19min before embarking on the record for the fastest time to complete ten back-of-the-hand push-ups carrying a 60lb backpack.

The Balsall Common athlete brought up double figures in just 15.03sec to push him 19 records clear of Paul Woodlands’ Ultimate World Record mark.

“The support was great throughout the final attempt to win the world record,” said Doyle.

“However, I had to stay focused and get ready to attempt the back-of-the-hands push-ups.

“Attempting this title has tested my mental strength over the last 12 months - carrying injuries from one challenge to another has not helped either - but all the hard work has paid off.”
